“Casting Pearls” at Woodstock Film Festival: part of the local connection

This year’s Woodstock Film Festival in upstate New York features a number of shorts, narrative features and documentaries that highlight the beauty of the Hudson Valley and the filmmakers who call it home. The Poughkeepsie Journal highlights several of these, including:

“Casting Pearls,” a short film produced by Woodstock-area resident and Woodstock Film Festival Advisory Board member Ron Nyswaner, who wrote the screenplays for “The Painted Veil” and “Philadelphia.”

The short stars Calpernia Addams as an actress enduring a series of casting sessions, and was directed by Andrea James.

Many of the filmmakers, cast and crew of these films will be present at the screenings, which take place Oct. 11-14. Tickets range from $8 to $20. To purchase tickets, call 845-810-0131, visit http://www.woodstockfilmfestival.com, or go to the festival box office, 34 Tinker St., Woodstock.
