The performance showcased notable trans women reading Eve's beautiful monologues about the experiences of womanhood and the reclaiming of self through loving and respecting our bodies. The event also featured artistic, literary and musical contributions from trans women from around the country.
Producing, directing and performing in the debut of Eve Ensler's new trans-themed monologue under her personal guidance and under the mentorship of Jane Fonda was a transformative experience. Add to this a national cast that included several of our best and brightest, the landmark venue, and the star-studded roster of attendees, and we are left with a historical event which would be hard for us to top.
Since its debut at our event, hundreds of V-Day events around the world incorporated Eve's beautiful monologue on the issue of trans violence, called “They Beat the Girl out of My Boy... Or So They Tried.” We are especially thrilled that trans voices have been added to this powerful play.
Our V-Day experience was one of the most inspiring and empowering events in our lives, and we hope you will join this global movement of women and those who love them as we work toward a world without violence. We raised over $11,000 for the LA Commission on Assaults Against Women, the Task Force, and the Juarez project!
V-Day is an event designed to raise awareness and funds to prevent violence against women and girls. This large-scale, mainstream event was a historic opportunity for the trans community to present ourselves in a positive, contributing light. As V-Day continues its groundbreaking efforts to raise awareness about how violence affects different groups of women in different ways, we hope you will consider getting involved in a local V-Day event.
