"Casting Pearls" short in German distribution deal

Thursday, December 13, 2007

Deep Stealth

Frameline Distribution has announced that German film distributor Salzgeber & Co. Medien GmbH has made a deal to sublicense selected Frameline content, including the short film “Casting Pearls.” Frameline picked up the 7-minute short for distribution rights prior to its premiere.

“Casting Pearls” stars Calpernia Addams and is directed by Andrea James. It illustrates the difficulties transsexual women face in Hollywood via a hectic series of auditions endured by Cassandra, a transsexual actress.  Cassandra weathers the horrible, funny and cruel things said by various Hollywood professionals with plucky determination and professionalism, showing that decades of bias can’t hold back the real contributions of transgender people to the arts and media.

Since 1981 Frameline has been the leading distributor of LGBT media.  Frameline’s collection has more than 200 titles, which can be seen online, on-air and in theatres as well as purchased for institutional or home use.

Calpernia Addams to appear at V-Day 10th Anniversary in New Orleans

Wednesday, December 05, 2007

Deep Stealth
Calpernia Addams from Deep Stealth Productions is scheduled to appear at the 10th anniversary of V-Day in New Orleans, April 11-12, 2008.

V-Day press release below:

V-Day Announces its 10th Anniversary in New Orleans With Salma Hayek, Oprah Winfrey, Jane Fonda, Jennifer Hudson, Joss Stone and More

V TO THE TENTH to take place at the New Orleans Arena and Louisiana Superdome Friday - Saturday, April 11-12, 2008 featuring Salma Hayek, Oprah Winfrey, Jane Fonda, Jennifer Hudson, Glenn Close, Julia Stiles, Ashley Judd, Marisa Tomei, Calpernia Addams, Rosario Dawson, Kerry Washington, Ellen Degeneres, and Musicians Joss Stone, Common, Eve, Charmaine Neville.

(Vocus/PRWEB ) December 5, 2007—V-Day, the global movement to end violence against women and girls, will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2008 with women and men from the U.S. and throughout the world.

News ImageFounded by playwright Eve Ensler on February 14, 1998 at the first benefit of her award winning play The Vagina Monologues, the global non profit has raised over $50 million for local anti violence groups with events taking place in over 120 countries to date and thousands more planned during the upcoming anniversary year.

To celebrate the last ten years of ending violence against women and girls and welcome the next ten years, thousands of V-Day activists will stage their annual benefits beginning in January. V-Day’s 2008 season will culminate with V-Day’s mega two-day anniversary celebration in New Orleans Friday - Saturday, April 11-12 at the New Orleans Arena and Louisiana Superdome - V TO THE TENTH. V-Day’s anniversary events are made possible by the generous support of the NoVo Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation. TBWA/Chiat/Day Los Angeles is creating a branding and messaging campaign pro bono for the anniversary.

Each year V-Day increases awareness by focusing on a specific group of women in the world who are resisting violence with courage and vision. In 2008, the spotlight is turned to New Orleans and the Gulf South. The spotlight will highlight the daily ongoing work of women in their communities who have steadfastly kept New Orleans and the Gulf South alive with little to no resources. These women - “Katrina Warriors” - will be honored for their strength and resilience in the face of devastating loss. The spotlight will bring global attention and funds so that women may be safe and empowered in a region whose pulse beats like no other.

“V to the Tenth will celebrate our victories and usher in the next ten years where together we will raise the stakes, go further, go deeper, increase the power and CHANGE THE STORY OF WOMEN. What happened in New Orleans and the Gulf South after the flood and storm represents the challenges that women face worldwide- violence, global warming, racism, lack of healthcare and education, financial insecurity, and the failure of local and national governments. All these are pieces of the story of violence that continues to impact women in the United States and around the world. V to the Tenth is a celebration, it is the call, the decision, the next step,” stated V-Day Founder/Artistic Director Eve Ensler.

Two invitation only fundraisers are in the works - on the West Coast in January and a special NYC celebration on Valentine’s Day, February 14. Throughout February and March, thousands of V-Day benefits are scheduled throughout the U.S. and the world from Shenzhen, China to Stockholm, Sweden from Canberra, Australia to Lagos, Nigeria. To coincide with these events, Ensler will embark on a nationwide 20-city V To The Tenth speaking tour. In February, Random House will release the 10th anniversary edition of The Vagina Monologues and the paperback edition of Ensler’s most recent book, Insecure At Last.

These events will lead up to V TO THE TENTH, the V-Day event of the decade, on April 11 - 12, 2008 at the New Orleans Arena and Louisiana Superdome. On Saturday evening, April 12, V-Day will stage a once in a lifetime event featuring international performances of The Vagina Monologues, musical guests, V-Day activists from across the globe including Kenya, Afghanistan, Iraq, the Philippines, Democratic Republic of Congo and Eastern Europe, men standing up for women and much more. Calpernia Addams, Glenn Close, Rosario Dawson, Ellen DeGeneres, Jane Fonda, Salma Hayek, Jennifer Hudson, Ashley Judd, Julia Stiles, Marisa Tomei, Kerry Washington, Oprah Winfrey, and musicians Common, Eve, Charmaine Neville, and Joss Stone have already signed on.* The evening will open minds and hearts and raise much needed attention and funds for groups working to end violence against women and girls around the world, and in New Orleans and the Gulf South.

Tickets from $25-$1000 are on sale now. Visit http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/1B003F5EC8C97006?artistid=1172255&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=1

Over the weekend, Friday - Saturday, April 11 -12, the Superdome will be transformed into SUPERLOVE. Activities will strengthen the V-Day model of empowerment by linking art and activism; building bridges across class, nationality and racial divides; and providing a center of caring, learning and healing for the local community. During the two days V-Day will reclaim the dome, transforming it into a place of empowerment and action.

Special wellness programs are being planned for the women of the Gulf South throughout the two days. The space will also feature events and programming with international and local speakers (Carole Bebelle Rosario Dawson, Jane Fonda, Dr. Denis Mukwege, Suze Orman, NYC Council Speaker Chris Quinn, Rha Goddess, Kerry Washington and more*), spoken word and performances, art installations, and more. V-Day activists from around the world can meet at the Superdome to network and connect with each other, and the women of the Gulf South.

V-Day will announce the SUPERLOVE schedule in the coming weeks with tickets available online. Sign up for V-Mail at vday.org/vmail to receive information and program schedules for the Superdome, as well as the latest updates on V TO THE TENTH.

Over its ten years of art and activism, the V-Day movement has educated millions about the issue of violence against women and the efforts to end it, crafted international educational, media and PSA campaigns, launched the Karama program in the Middle East, reopened shelters, and funded over 5000 community-based anti-violence programs and safe houses in Kenya, South Dakota, Haiti, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt and Iraq.

NewNowNext: Logo's New Reality Show: Transamerican Love Story

Deep Stealth

From NewNowNext:

No, not a love story between these two. (Not that kind of love, anyway.) But gay comedian Alec Mapa (Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives) will play host for Calpernia Addams’ upcoming dating show. To quote Alec on this photo shoot: “It’s like Angelina and Maddox!”

Yes, Calpernia Addams is the new bachelorette! Logo recently greenlit a new reality series starring the actress/activist called Transamerican Love Story to air in February. On the show, Calpernia will choose from eight men living together in a Los Angeles-area home, and, unlike some other shows I could name (and I will: There’s Something About Miriam), all of these bachelors know Calpernia is trans.

Actress and activist Calpernia Addams’ tragic romance with an Army private in Kentucky inspired the 2003 movie Soldier’s Girl. She also founded Deep Stealth Productions, a media company that supports transsexual women.

But I want to know: What will Calpernia pass out to her men? Chains? Roses? Over-sized clocks? Nothing seems to measure up...I’ll have to wait and see.

Check below for more pictures from the photo shoot...including Calpernia with her friend and fellow activist, Andrea James (who will also appear on the show)...

LOGO FINDS LOVE, TRANSAMERICAN STYLE WITH UPCOMING REALITY SLATE
Reality dating show starring Calpernia Addams and Alec Mapa to premiere in February 2008; lesbian bar scene and gay basketball series to bow in summer 2008

NEW YORK, NY - November 29, 2007 - Logo, a division of Viacom Inc.’s (NYSE: VIA and VIA.B) MTV Networks, today announced it has greenlit a new competition dating series - Transamerican Love Story - centered on transgender activist, artist, actress and author Calpernia Addams.  Logo also announced the greenlight of Gimme Sugar, which follows five women on the search for love in the L.A. lesbian nightlife and club scene as well as Rockdogs (working title), which chronicles San Francisco’s star gay basketball team as its new generation of players struggles to survive on and off the court.

“These shows advance Logo’s continuing mission to not only explore the diversity of people in our community, but also the diverse lives they lead,” said Brian Graden, President, MTV Networks Music Group Entertainment; and President, Logo.

Logo’s new eight episode dating reality series Transamerican Love Story follows Calpernia Addams as she whittles down a group of eight bachelors, living together in a Los Angeles-area home, with the help of her best friend and fellow transgender activist Andrea James. Calpernia is openly transgender to all the show’s suitors from the start of the series.

“Calpernia Addams proves that steely optimism and a genuine spirit are the universal keys to finding love,” added Graden.

The show is hosted by comedian and actor Alec Mapa (Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives) and will also feature online voting at LOGOonline.com, allowing viewers to express who they think Calpernia should eliminate.  Live voting results will air during the show, but the selections are Calpernia’s alone.

The hour-long show, which will premiere in February 2008, is executive produced by Randy Barbato, Fenton Bailey and Tom Campbell of World of Wonder Productions (Transgeneration, The Eyes Of Tammy Faye), Joe Del Hierro of Oh Really! Productions (The Big Gay Sketch Show) and co-executive produced by Julio Kollerbohm.

In Gimme Sugar’s six half-hour episodes, five hot young friends on the L.A. lesbian club scene bite off more than they can chew when they try to launch and promote their own club night.  If they succeed, they’ll be the youngest female promoters in LA. The girls will fight, fall in love, break apart, and come back together as they struggle to make their dream come true.

The show, which will premiere in summer 2008, is executive produced by Scott A. Stone of Stone & Company (Tim Gunn’s Guide To Style, The Ride, Curl Girls), Michaline Babich (Million Dollar Listing, Welcome To The Parker) & Michelle Agnew.

A star gay basketball team in San Francisco lives together under one roof as they prepare to defend their national title in Rockdogs (working title).  During six half-hour episodes, the team will try to bring back the glory of San Francisco’s three-generation, gold-medal winning legacy of the Rockdogs.  While the competition on the court is fierce, the action will be found on the high drama off the court.  Executive produced by Eddie October Productions (Bands Reunited, Tommy Lee Goes To College) and William Kendall, the show will premiere in summer 2008.

Logo slates new dating show starring Calpernia Addams

Deep Stealth

Calpernia Addams is set to star in a new dating show airing in February 2008. Eight men will vie for her affection on Transamerican Love Story, hosted by Alec Mapa.

Ms. Addams said, “I’m so thrilled about the whole experience. I kept asking myself, what if I find someone amazing?”

“The media is finally bringing trans people to the screen as intellectual, social and emotional equals who they trust the audience to identify with. Usually we are relegated to prostitute, punch line, psycho or ‘noble victim’ roles, and 90 percent of the time we don’t even play the roles ourselves. This show will be lots of real fun, which is groundbreaking.”

Logo is also currently airing “Casting Pearls,” a short starring Calpernia and directed by Andrea James. Viewers can watch and rate it online as part of this season’s The Click List: Best in Short Film.
